Akshay Kumar Tells Reporter, "Chaliye Beta" As Actor Dodges Question On Not Voting; Video Goes Viral
Recently, Akshay Kumar was asked about not voting in the recently held Lok Sabha elections 2019. The superstar dodged the question and just walked away
Lok Sabha elections 2019 saw who’s who of Bollywood casting their votes. Right from Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone to Anushka Sharma many B-Townies made sure they step out and fulfil their duties. But celebs like Akshay Kumar and Alia Bhatt were among those who skipped voting.
Talking about Kesari actor, who recently grabbed headlines for his "non-political and candid" interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, well, Akshay was heavily trolled for not casting his vote in the Lok Sabha elections.
At a special screening of the film Blank, which stars Dimple Kapadia’s nephew Karan Kapadia, a journalist asked him about giving voting a miss. Replying to which Kumar told the reporter “Chaliye beta, Chaliye.” This video has now gone viral.
Akshay has established his image as someone who always encourages patriotism, which is evident even in his choice of films, like Kesari, Baby, Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and Airlift.
The fact that he missed voting gave trolls a reason to mock him. A troll asked him, “When is the true blood real nationalist idol Akshay Kumar voting?” while other said, “Has anyone seen Deshbhakt @akshaykumar voting today ?#MumbaikarVoteKar”
Akshay was one of the prominent Bollywood celebrities whom Modi had tagged in a tweet, asking him to encourage voting. And the actor, in his tweet, had duly complied saying, "The true hallmark of a democracy lies in people's participation in the electoral process. Voting has to be a superhit 'prem katha' between our nation and its voters.”
